Testimonials

Giedre, Kingussie and Huntly's Cave, 12-13/10/24

"Thanks for your time teaching, leading, and keeping us safe over the weekend. You came across as very knowledgeable & passionate about climbing; Saturday has demystified anchors to the point where for the first time ever I feel like I would be able to apply these skills independently with some more practice. The level of teaching was spot on - was challenged at the right level & the route progression from VD to HS was great. Top roping instruction was a valuable addition. Thanks for your patience on top of the abseil!"

Christopher, Kingussie and Huntly's Cave, 12-13/10/24

"It has been a fantastic experience… The level of technical detail put across this weekend was exceptional… Your delivery of the teaching was perfect, the right combination of theory and practical demonstration followed by a hands on approach of 'show me what you've just learned'. I really appreciated your teaching style and feel like everything you taught went in. The locations chosen were great, with environmental conditions assessed to give the best chance of meeting the goals of the weekend. I particularly appreciated the short approaches given we were focusing on skills. Your technical competency and climbing skills shone through across the weekend and made us feel at ease… Your assessment of our climbing skills and a staggered approach to difficulty was very well done, I felt we were pushed enough to be comfortable but challenged."

Jeroen, Auchinstarry and Dunkeld, 8-9/10/24

"It was a really useful experience but also lots of fun. You were very clear in explaining different pieces of gear and techniques etc. and importantly was open to teaching at our lower technical level. You were patient and explicitly said you were happy to repeat anything misunderstood and this is encouraging to hear especially as I like to ask questions. Climbing experience was enjoyable and from my perspective safe at all times which is of course critical."

Dovydas, Auchinstarry & Dunkeld, 8-9/10/24

"We took a 2-day climbing instruction with Robbie, which was a great experience. Robbie was very knowledgeable and throughout the two days taught us a ton of new skills, perfectly adapting to the weather, our schedules, and changing locations. Robbie was able to grasp our ability level very quickly, so we felt challenged, but very safe throughout. I highly recommend Robbie as a mountaineering/climbing instructor to anyone, regardless of skill level."

Joe, Traprain, 6/10/24

"I gained a lot of knowledge and confidence from my day out with Robbie. He was well-prepared with a variety of activities and adjusted perfectly to me and my friend's level. He was competent, friendly, patient, great at explaining stuff and gave us an appropriate level of responsibility to make sure we were testing our skills while also minding risk. I do not hesitate in recommending Robbie as a climbing instructor."

Aidan, Traprain, 5/10/24

"Robbie provided a great full day instructing myself and a friend. Robbie is very knowledgeable and is great at presenting the information in a digestible manner. Robbie was able to adapt the day's plans to accommodate our interest in rescue situations."

Chris, Glen Nevis, 29/9/24

"I had a brilliant day with Robbie at Polldubh crags in Glen Nevis doing a day of trad climbing skills. Robbie was very communicative leading up to the day and made sure we dodged the rain with a good choice of venue. Robbie was able to work on different skills for both of us at the same time, which was very useful as we had different experience levels."

Marti, Glen Nevis, 29/9/24

"I really enjoyed learning from Robbie last weekend. We did a couple of routes were we climbed as a three. He led and took the time to explain different gear placements and how to remove them best. I got the chance to practice belay building after he had already built one. It was extremely useful to be able to practice this and ask questions while knowing I was attached to the belay he’d built before. I also got the opportunity to practice leading. Robbie used a fixed line to follow me up so we could discuss gear placements and make sure everything was safe. I found it really helpful and learned a lot."

Tom, Glen Nevis, 22/9/24

"We had a fantastic day out with Robbie in Glen Nevis. He tailored our day of instruction perfectly to match the goals we had to develop our trad climbing skills, picking out interesting routes for us and gradually building up our confidence until we felt ready to lead ourselves. He is a great teacher with a huge amount of knowledge and enthusiasm for climbing, as well as being a fun person to spend a day climbing with, all while keeping us safe. I would highly recommend Robbie as an instructor to anyone looking to learn or improve their trad climbing!"

Lucy, Glen Nevis, 22/9/24

Would thoroughly recommend for people of all levels of experience looking to gain confidence and knowledge climbing."

Martin, Dunkeld, 12-13/9/24

"Robbie was great from the start of arranging our training session for Trad Climbing skills, he tailored the sessions to my skillset and experience and adjusted as we went along where he felt appropiate. He was prompt, patient, understanding  and good at communicating throughout our sessions. Would recommend for anyone trying to learn new moutaineering/climbing skills and knowledge."
